El artista se inspiró por su primera visita realizada a Nueva York, creando una serie de trabajos con el nombre de  American Appeal; donde utiliza miles de anzuelos como símbolo de seducción y trampa. Todos los significados que se asocian a esto se fortalecen cuando analizamos temas como la inmigración/emigración frente al Sueño Americano que Nueva York representa, especialmente desde el contexto cubano.
